Ever feel like you aren't being heard when you go a doctor or dentist? I feel like sometimes doctors get used to seeing the same stuff every day and stop treating each patient as if they are special. Dr. Senn is not one of those doctors, in fact he goes much further in explaining and exploring options than anyone I have ever seen. Because they focus on holistic and more advanced forms of care, they don't really take insurance but it's worth the cost to have all the options and care they provide.

Treating Gum Disease Effectively and Gently in Sebastopol, CA Area

To support your overall wellbeing, Drs Silvano Senn and Toni Mann practice conservative dentistry. Treating gum disease in Sebastopol, CA, at the office of Whole Health Dentistry may involve simple, non-invasive adjustments to oral hygiene. We always recommend the least invasive approach to restore your oral health.

Early-stage gum disease

Gum disease, or periodontal disease, is progressive. Bacterial plaque irritates the tissues that support our teeth. Mild periodontal disease, or gingivitis, may be characterized by inflamed tissues that appear redder than usual. Your gums may bleed when you brush or floss. They may feel tender to the touch. Many patients, however, don’t experience symptoms at all. We use advanced digital imaging to safely diagnose “hidden” oral conditions or diseases in their earliest stages. These conditions may not be detected with less sensitive diagnostic tools.

Early intervention prevents gum disease from progressing. The effects of gingivitis may be reversed with professional cleaning at our office. Our tools, in experienced hands, remove stubborn plaque from the teeth and underneath the gumline. Additionally, we’ll demonstrate ways to clean and floss effectively between teeth. We may find that you aren’t flossing sufficiently or that you aren’t brushing long enough. Oral care products can also be recommended that support your specific needs and overall wellness.

Advanced gum disease

Without treatment, gingivitis progresses to become periodontitis. This advanced form of gum disease threatens the healthy attachments between the soft tissues (gums) and hard tissues (teeth). Pockets and spaces between the teeth and gums grow larger. Teeth may shift out of alignment and become loose. Traditionally, periodontitis has been treated with invasive surgical techniques. We may recommend non-surgical Perio Protect®. This method involves fabricating a custom tray or dental appliance for your mouth. The tray is filled with powerful, bacteria-fighting medicine. When worn as shown by your dentist, the medicine is delivered gently below the gumline. Perio Protect®, in turn, treats areas that can’t be reached with a toothbrush, floss, and other dental instruments. When combined with homecare, Perio Protect® resolves gum disease without surgery.

Other gum disease treatments at Whole Health Dentistry may be combined with ozone therapy. Ozone may be applied to eliminate the harmful bacteria responsible for periodontal disease. It is a gentle alternative to deeply clean, reduce periodontal pockets between teeth, and promote healthy gum attachments and bone recovery.
